Successful renovation with stylish Moduleo vinyl floors

Sometimes life takes strange turns. Susanne, Jerome, Camiel and Stella were no exception. They were not looking for a new home at all, until they literally turned a corner and stumbled on this property in 2018. It was love at first sight. Just three days later they had an offer accepted – and since moving in, they have given it a completely new look, thanks to their stylish new Moduleo floors.

Looking in at Susanne & Jerome

Take a look inside the house of Susanne, Jerome, Camiel and Stella. It has a great natural feel with lots of light, green colours and above all, striking Moduleo floors.

How did they come across this house? Susanne laughs. "We had no intention of buying a new house. But one Sunday we were driving around and we happened to see it for sale. I fell in love, frankly."

In terms of structure, the property was OK, but the interior was dated and required a lot of renovation. "It was a lot of hard work, but great fun – and within six months everything was in place."

Living room and kitchen as one open space

One of most eye-catching features is the floor that runs throughout the living room and kitchen. "We wanted to make the living room and kitchen into one open space. To save on costs, we were going to leave the existing marble floor in the living room and only install a new floor in the kitchen."

"A great advantage of vinyl, however, is that you can lay it over the existing floor. So no floor had to be broken out. Because of this cost saving, we were able to extend the kitchen floor into the living room for a real feeling of open plan living and a natural flow."

Herringbone pattern, but not parquet

"I always wanted a herringbone pattern. I thought you could only get it as parquet and that wasn’t feasible, because we would have to break up the floor and that would be too expensive. And then I saw the Herringbone collection of Moduleo. "I was genuinely surprised when I saw it, because I had a different perception of vinyl. I had no idea it could look so luxurious and replicate real wood so well."

"Our local retailer helped us out in the choosing process. He came to have a look at the house in order to help us choose for the floor and the property as a whole. Should we go for a busy motif or something more subtle? What about the hallway or bathroom? In the end, we went for a lovely herringbone pattern for the kitchen and living room, which works really well."

Striking choice for hallway and bathroom

In the bathroom and hallway they chose the striking Moduleo Moods - Diamond cubes floor. "I found the pattern so beautiful and creative, but it was a bit too busy for the kitchen. It fits better in a corridor. In the bathroom, the floor had to match the second-hand cupboard. I knew what I wanted: black and white. So it didn't take long to make that choice.

What do Stella and Camiel think of the floors? Susanne laughs: "They are not very concerned about it. Although Stella likes to play games with the black and white floor before she goes to sleep. Sometimes she only jumps on the white one, sometimes on the black one.

Surprised reactions

The reactions of friends and family are very positive. "Our visitors love it, but always think it is real wood. Once they hear that it's actually vinyl, they are genuinely surprised. I can understand, not just because of how it looks but also because the floor was also laid very professionally by our local retailer. It fits together just like wood. No vinyl on a roll, but laid separately, piece by piece. A lot of time and care, love and passion has gone into it. We’re delighted.
