Scandi-noir
Nordic hues have been popular for a while now, but you can add a contemporary twist by incorporating sharp shapes and darker tones.
A dark kitchen may sound overwhelming at first, but you can make a style statement by contrasting jet black walls and appliances with a warm and gentle, light oak flooring shade. This contrast helps to brighten the space and ensure the dark, moody palette doesn’t overpower the room.

Jewel Tones
From wall colours to soft furnishings, jewel tones have become a staple in many homes. A vibrant shade of teal blue or emerald green pairs perfectly with warm, dark oak, wood-effect shades of flooring, adds a sense of elegance and serenity to any room.
Such dramatic colours make a bold statement when used as an accent wall or even throughout the entire room. Painting your door architrave and skirting in the same colour unifies the effect. Expect to see amethyst, emerald and topaz take centre stage in living rooms this year.
The power of complementary colours
Pantone unveiled that they have selected two contrasting shades of the year for 2021. This year it’s ‘Illuminating Yellow’, a warm but vibrant and positive yellow and ‘Ultimate Grey’, a calm and solid contrast which will prove popular as we head into the spring, along with all it’s positivity and cheerfulness. Pantone describes these shades as “a marriage of colour conveying a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting.”
Bright spaces that utilise strategic pops of colour have taken over from the neutral, minimalist look of yesterday, in favour of warm shades that can boost mood and increase happiness. Adding a pop of colour to the bathroom is an easy way for homeowners to incorporate this trend and add some energy to this usually stark room of the house.
